Create @ Blackwattle – Join spinner extraordinaire, Deborah Everson White, here on the farm, for 2 days, to learn how to card, spin and ply...a complete fibre journey!PLEASE NOTE: this workshop is over 2 days: 5th and 6th April - 10.30 to 4pm both days!
Join us for an immersive two-day fibre workshop and discover the art of transforming raw fibre into beautiful, hand-spun yarn. This hands-on experience is perfect for beginners and intermediate fibre enthusiasts alike, offering a guided journey through every step of the process:
Day 1 (Morning) - Carding
Begin your journey with half a day dedicated to learning the essentials of carding. Using a carding machine and blending board, you'll prepare and blend fibres, creating unique textures and colours - perfect for spinning and felting.
Day 1 (Afternoon) & Day 2 (Morning) - Spinning
Dive into the spinning process over 2 half day sessions, where you'll refine your technique and begin spinning the carded fibres into yarn. Gain confidence at the wheel with guidance from Deborah and plenty of hands-on practice.
Day 2 (Afternoon) - Plying
Finish your fibre journey with a session on plying, where you'll learn how to twist your spun yarn to create stronger, more balanced threads. This final step will turn your spun fibres into a finished skein of yarn, ready for use in any knitting, crochet or weaving project.
