Long story short:
Since ancient times, the Rusalka Week (other names - Green Week, Rozhanytsi, Rozhulia, Granyi Week, and others) was mainly celebrated at the same time - when the vegetative power of Mother Earth awoke, the time of flowering and lush greenery, the first spring grasses, and the sprouting of rye. This delicate, natural, and at the same time spiritual work is carried out by spiritual entities known in the Ancestral Faith as Rusalki.
The main divine essence of this period in the theology of the Native Faith is the Rusalki, about whose cult perhaps the most information has been preserved in Ukrainian and Belarusian Polissia. It is the Rusalki who spiritualize nature and the surrounding world, each responsible for their sphere of activity: the field, the forest, the water. A detailed analysis of the remnants of our ancestors' ancient beliefs gives grounds for the conclusion that Rusalka could once have been a Goddess, and it was only the Christian persecution of ancient beliefs and rituals that gave her the attributes of a 'demonic entity'.
Modern ethnographic knowledge about the Rusalki is marked by great diversity and sometimes contradiction, as aggressive world religions have already imposed their grotesque influence on these ideas. By endowing the Rusalki with dangerous traits for humans, Christianity forced people to fear them, to protect themselves from them with amulets, to 'baptize' the Rusalki, and even some ethnographers still adhere to the stereotypical idea of Rusalki as 'evil forces'. So, let's break stereotypes together!
