Are you ready for Bryan/College Station’s Fourth annual Cranksgiving on Sunday, November 17th? Cranksgiving is a food drive on two wheels that is part bike ride, part food drive, part scavenger hunt.
The ride will be about 10-13 miles long with 4-5 grocery stores checkpoints. At each checkpoint, riders are asked to purchase non-perishable goods to be donated to Brazos Valley Food Bank. There is no set route between the stores so knowledge of local streets or how to use google maps is very helpful. We encourage all riders to bring along their family, friends, co-wokers ect as this event is more fun to do in a group! It can also be helpful to leave one person outside the store to watch the bikes.
What do I need to participate?
All you need to participate is a bike, bag/backpack/pannier/cargo bike (to carry groceries purchased), lock, helmet and a sense of adventure. Expect to spend ~$10-12 dollars on non-perishable goods during the ride.
When and where is the ride happening?
The Cranksgiving ride will start at 2pm on November 12th. The ride will start and end at Aggieland Cycling. Registration will start at 1pm. When you register for the ride, you will be given a manifest with the list of checkpoints. Then the route planning fun begins!
Is this a race?
Most riders do this ride as a scavenger hunt rather than a race. While some may choose to treat it as a race, there is no obligation to do so. The main focus of the ride is to have fun in the name of a worthy cause.
Is there a registration fee?
Instead of a formal registration fee, we do ask for each participant to bring a personal care item to be donated when they register at the start of the race. The Brazos Valley Food Bank is always in need of toiletries (soap, shampoo, deoderent), diapers, paper towels and toilet paper.
Will there be prizes?
Yes! We will have prizes for the most generous riders, fastest and more.
Is there an afterparty?
Of course! Join us at Aggieland Cycling after the ride for cold drinks, food and fun.
