CRAFTY CHARITY RACE NIGHT - GAIN

ABOUT THE EVENT/TICKETS
Our past race nights have been brilliant fun and the response has been tremendous in raising money in a way that gets everyone involved. At the last one we raised an amazing £1075 !
We have chosen this charity as we personally know people who have recently been diagnosed with GBS. Research and on-going support is key to helping people through such a life changing diagnosis and their future well-being. See below for more information on GBS and the charity GAIN.
Please contact Wendy at the Crafty for more information and tickets. The price includes pie and peas and a charity donation per ticket.
Most of the money is raised simply via betting on races, 50% winnings, 50% charity. We also offer sponsorship for each of the races for £25 to businesses or for a personal sponsorship which will be advertised across the screens on the night.
WHAT IS GBS?
People impacted by GBS, CIDP, and other inflammatory neuropathies are at the very centre of what they do at GAIN.
Guillain-Barré Syndrome (pronounced ghee-yan bar-ray) is a rare but potentially life changing autoimmune condition that affects the peripheral nervous system (the nerves outside of your brain and spinal cord). It causes muscle weakness and sometimes paralysis.
Symptoms often start with tingling or weakness in the legs, which can then spread to the arms and upper body. In severe cases, GBS can lead to total paralysis, affecting breathing and other essential functions.
Some people may need intensive care support, including being put on a ventilator. The exact cause of GBS is not fully understood, but it often occurs after a viral or bacterial infection.
We think that what happens is that the body's immune system (your body's defence against infection and disease) tries to fight off an infection, and instead attacks your own nerves by mistake.
Thank you for reading.
