Celebrate Juneteenth through textile art in this culturally grounded workshop that honors freedom, emancipation, and community resilience. After a brief look at Kente’s West African origins and the meanings behind its patterns and colors, you’ll design and sew a Kente-inspired quilt square using motifs and hues that evoke liberation, memory, family, and hope.
You may take your finished square home or choose to lend it for display at the Toombs House throughout June and/or as part of the community Juneteenth Celebration. (We're still waiting on more news about when and where this might be.)
No sewing experience necessary & all supplies will be provided for the workshop. Most of the sewing will be hand sewing; however, we do have a few machines for those who wish to use a machine.
