Immerse yourself in First Nations culture at our Weaving and Native Foods workshop, where you'll learn traditional weaving techniques, explore native foods, and enjoy live music by Ngarrindjeri Elder Owen Love.🧶 Weaving with Aunty Leanne: Buandig/Boandik lady Aunty Leanne will guide you in crafting a bracelet using Cyperus gymnocaulos, a traditional weaving material. You'll also learn how to start a larger project to continue at home. As you weave, Aunty Leanne will share her cultural knowledge, passed down through generations, connecting you to the traditions of her community. Leanne has participated in a workshop led by Ngarrindjeri Master Weaver, Aunty Ellen Trevorrow, and has continued to weave and hone her knowledge.
🌿 Native Foods with Karen: With over 10 years of experience in the Native Food industry, Karen will help you create native food platters using seasonal local native foods and preserves. Discover how to grow native plants in your garden and learn about Karen’s methods for harvesting and preserving native foods.
🎶 Live Music by Owen Love: Known as the "Song Man," Ngarrindjeri Elder Owen Love will entertain throughout the workshop with his string instruments and yudaki (didgeridoo). Raised on the shores of Lake Alexandrina and surrounded by music since childhood, Owen will bring a soulful, cultural soundtrack to your weaving and tasting experience.

About Aunty Leanne
Aunty Leanne is a Buandig/Boandik, First Nations lady. Born in Mount Gambier and growing up in Port Mac Donnell SA and Portland Vic, going back and forth, living in Victoria and the south coast of NSW before returning to Buandig/Boandik Country to raise her family. She has been working and residing on Kaurna Country (Adelaide) since 2011. While Leanne was living in NSW in her early thirties she was introduced to her hidden First Nations Culture. Since then, Leanne has been learning her culture from Uncle Ken Jones, her biological Uncle an Elder in Port Mac Donnell and her brother Dean Williams (dec.). Leanne did Cultural training with Uncle Dookie Kaurna/Nurrung Elder (Dr Kevin O’Loughlin OAM) on Kaurna Country, after completing the Kaurna training, he gave her permission to continue doing Cultural activities on Country.
In February 2024 Leanne participated in the SAARG fundraising Weaving Workshop with Ngarrindjeri Master Weaver, Aunty Ellen Trevorrow. Leanne has continued weaving and has joined
SAARG’s monthly weaving group. Since learning how to harvest the sedges, she has a good supply of traditional materials and has started doing workshops in Adelaide. “The Ngarrindjeri

About Owen Love
Owen is a Ngarrindjeri elder who grew up on Lake Alexandrina surrounded by music as a child. He travelled Australia employed in music theatre and is now creating performances for children. Known as the Song Man he will entertain throughout the workshop with his talents on his string instruments and Yudaki.
