What's foraging?

Foraging is the act of harvesting plants and mushrooms from the wild for food, crafting, and medicinal remedies. Join urban forager Aly of Glam Gardener NYC for an indoor sit-down workshop at Farm to People in Brooklyn, NYC.

You’ll learn about some common poisonous, deadly, and edible invasive plants that grow wild in our region, while crafting your own unique bouquet. You’ll be shocked to learn how many wildflowers, invasive plants, and deadly weeds are growing right here in our backyards.

Tell me about the workshop:

This is an educational guided crafting workshop celebrating the spookiest thing that a forager could imagine: confusing a poisonous plant for a wild edible. Luckily, in this workshop attendees will learn about 5-10 common plants that grow in our local ecosystem, while crafting them into a beautiful bouquet that is safe to take home.

Attendees will learn about the historical significance, ancestral uses, folklore, and ecosystem functions of wild plants in this workshop. You'll even get to taste the plants that are edible.

Your bouquet will last for a week in a home environment.

This workshop is SAFE. You will only be provided plants that are poisonous and/or deadly if consumed. You will not be harmed by touching these plants. In fact, many common houseplants we know and love are poisonous!

What’s provided as part of this workshop:

All materials are provided for this workshop, including all plants, a vase, and tools necessary to craft a bouquet.

You will be guided through wrapping a bouquet with wild plants with the forager who harvested them. As part of the workshop, you'll be guided through each plant's unique qualities by your workshop host: Aly of Glam Gardener NYC.

Complimentary tea made from the *edible* wild-harvested plants that attendees are wrapping bouquets with will be provided for all attendees.

All attendees will be provided with an informational card of the plants included in each bouquet that explains the plants’ qualities.

All attendees will take home their bouquet in a provided vase after this workshop.

This workshop is hosted at Farm to People in Brooklyn, New York. Workshop attendees are encouraged to consume Farm to People food and drinks before, during, or after the workshop.
