Close Quarter Battle (CQB) is a type of combat situation where two or more parties in close proximity. This can be extremely dangerous and requires specialized training. Entry teams train together for years building trust and familiarity with one another to be a more effective unit.Training for CQB needs to include three key components -SPEED, SURPRISE, and CONTROLLED VIOLENT ACTION.
These principles are essential to effective close-quarters engagements.
Speed: Entry-if at all possible should be planned, and executed with SPEED and efficiency.
Surprise: This element is crucial along with speed to take your objective before they have time to prepare a counter measure, and disrupt their ability to defend their position.
Controlled Violent Action: Entry under most circumstances, is forced, by kicking open an entry point door, use of a battering ram, etc.is usually followed using a flash bang or other disorienting tool taking your opponent by surprise, followed by a speed entry where the entry team should they contact individuals inside, will need to detain them quickly, possibly with need to disarm them.
Another key aspect to CQB, when moving from room to room, is to avoid the “FATAL FUNNEL”. The fatal funnel include the entry point, hallways, stairways or stairwells, or any narrow area. These areas put the entry team at their most vulnerable. Moving quickly through these fatal funnels is essential for the entry team.
**Battering ram & flashbangs will not be used for this class**
