The Trust is pleased to offer CPSI Certification, to help support our Members with playground safety programming.
About this Event

The Trust is pleased to offer Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) Certification, in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). CPSI certification is the most comprehensive training program on playground hazard identification and risk management methods offered nationwide. The goal is to have at least one CPSI at each Member, creating a resident expert in playground safety and hazard awareness, to help ensure playgrounds are maintained and constructed according to the required standards. Member employees with CPSI certification will be expected to implement or update, and oversee a playground safety program, with support from The Trust. The CPSI Certification Program is offered at NO COST to Trust Members.

COURSE HIGHLIGHTS: The course provides in-depth analysis of ASTM standards related to playground safety, focused on the process of safety inspection from design through audit and inspection, to maintenance and risk management practices. In addition, the course provides practical training on how to apply the ASTM standards and Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) guidelines to playground environments.

The training is presented by a certified instructor and playground safety expert who will prepare participants to sit for the Certified Playground Safety Inspector exam on the third day of the program. Participants are required to attend both days of the training and complete the advanced reading prior to taking the CPSI exam on the third day. The CPSI Course has been pre-approved for 1.5 CEU’s.

COURSE SCHEDULE:

Day 1 & 2 CSPI Course: February 11 & 12, 2025 8am - 5pm

Day 3 CPSI Exam: February 13, 2025 9am-11:15am

COURSE PREPARATION: Resource materials developed especially for this course will be provided to participants approximately three weeks prior to the course. It is strongly advised that participants read these materials in advance, in order to best prepare for the course and the exam.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Personnel within Parks & Recreation, Facilities Maintenance, Public Works, or any other employees who have responsibility for playground inspections and maintenance.

One employee per Member is required to attend this training, although 2 may be permitted based on number of playgrounds.

The Program is available to Members of The Trust’s Property/Liability Program only, and is being offered at no cost.

CERTIFICATION: All participants who successfully pass the exam will be issued a Certified Playground Safety Inspector’s Certificate through the National Recreation and Park Association. Exam results will be provided approximately 30-45 days following the exam. CPSI certification is valid for three years.

REGISTRATION: Advance registration is required by January 8, 2025. Cancellations after the registration deadline or a “no-show” will incur a cancellation fee of $100.

By registering, I attest that I understand and agree to the following:

-The CPSI Certification Program consists of advanced reading, two days of in-person training, and an examination the morning of the third day. I will read the materials provided prior to the training, will attend the two full days of training, and will sit for the exam on the third day.

-Member employees holding CPSI certification will be expected to implement or update and oversee a playground safety program for the City/Town or School Department, with support from The Trust.

- I have received authorization by the City/Town Manager or School Superintendent to register for this training.
