About Kevan Hall: A Legacy of Style, Innovation, and Cultural Impact
Detroit-born Kevan Hall discovered his passion for fashion early—by age seven, he knew he wanted to be a designer. After high school, he enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles, where his exceptional talent earned him the prestigious Peacock Award for Best Design. Upon graduation, Hall joined renowned L.A. designer Harriet Selwyn (Fragments) as Assistant Designer, learning the fundamentals of collection building, merchandising, and fit.
In 1982, Hall launched Kevan Hall Couture, catering to a modern, couture-savvy clientele. The collection quickly gained national acclaim, selling in major retailers such as Lord & Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Bonwit Teller, I. Magnin, and Bullock's Wilshire, as well as top specialty stores.
In 1998, Hall made history as the first Black American designer appointed Design & Creative Director of an American heritage brand, when he was tapped to relaunch Halston in New York. From Fall 1998 to Spring 2000, he revived the iconic house with sleek, modern eveningwear worn by Celine Dion, Sharon Stone, Charlize Theron, and Salma Hayek.
In 2001, Hall launched his signature Kevan Hall Collection, rooted in pure style, impeccable tailoring, and sensuous draping. Hall's accolades include being named “Designer of the Year” at the 47th Annual Gold Coast Fashion Awards and “Style Maker of the Year” by Life & Style Magazine. His red-carpet clientele includes Vanessa Williams, Felicity Huffman, Sandra Oh, Debra Messing, Tina Fey, Ruby Dee, Gabourey Sidibe, and Allison Janney.
Beyond the runway, Hall has appeared on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane, Today with Kathie Lee and Hoda, Inside Edition, and E! Fashion Police with Joan Rivers. He launched Kevan Hall Inspiration, an exclusive TV retail line for QVC and HSE24 Italy.
A respected industry voice, Hall has lectured at USC’s Norman Lear Center, LACMA’s Costume Council, and Detroit’s Fashion Speak conference. As a co-founder of The Novus Forum and a founding member of the Black Design Collective, he supports emerging designers through mentorship, scholarships, and education.
Kevan Hall’s enduring legacy is defined by innovation, elegance, and cultural relevance. With a visionary approach and decades of experience, he continues to shape the future of American fashion—cementing his place as a heritage brand for the new millennium.
