Duke Senior has been overthrown and banished by his usurping brother, Duke Frederick. Frederick's wrath turns towards our heroine, Rosalind, the daughter of Duke Senior, and she too is banished. Rosalind and her dear friend Celia, daughter of Frederick, disguise themselves as Ganymede and Aliena, and set off to the forest of Arden. Meanwhile, Sir Rowland de Bois has recently died, and, although he has instructed Oliver to take good care of his brother, Orlando, Oliver refuses to do so. Rosalind runs into the lovesick Orlando. Rosalind, as Ganymede, claims to be an expert in exorcising such emotions and promises to cure Orlando of love sickness if he agrees to pretend that Ganymede is Rosalind and promises to come woo her every day. Orlando agrees, and the love lessons begin.��
