Court of Conscience is excited to announce the launch of Issue 18 on 11 November 2024, where the Hon Tom Bathurst AC KC will deliver a keynote address on the theme, 'Changing With The Times: Progress and Law Reform.' Mr Bathurst is currently the Chair of the New South Wales Law Reform Commission. He served as Chief Justice of the New South Wales Supreme Court from 1 June 2011 to 5 March 2022, and was also the Lieutenant-Governor of New South Wales from 1 February 2012 to 5 December 2022. In 2014, Mr Bathurst was made a Companion of the Order of Australia for his eminent service to the judiciary, law, development of the legal profession and the New South Wales community.
This year's theme centres around dynamic areas of law reform within the domestic and international community. Issue 18 features 17 articles that span across a variety of different policy areas, including: developments in technology and regulation of AI; the implications of taking a human rights approach in legislation; developments in international health law; nature and the environment; and broader issues of social policy such as corporate crime, defamation, legal services and the legal treatment of Aboriginal communities.
The launch will take place on Monday 11 November 2024 from 6 PM at the Michael Crouch Innovation Centre Event Space at UNSW's Kengsinton Campus.
