Half day (9am - 12:30pm ) course for professionals working with or potentially working with people engaging in/affected by Domestic Abuse.
About this Event

Aimed at professionals working with or potentially working with people engaging in/affected by Domestic Abuse, this course will equip/enable professionals to identify, respond and have meaningful conversations with people who are affected by Domestic Abuse.

Covered within this half day (9am-12:30pm) course:

  • How to have conversations with clients about their relationships
  • How to identify and respond to issues around conflict in relationships
  • How to identify abusive behaviour
  • What language should be used
  • How to ask an individual about their potential abusive behaviour
  • How to ask an individual about abuse they may be experiencing
  • How to ask questions confidently when you don’t feel confident
  • Identifying motivation to change as a resource to draw upon for behaviour
  • Brief overview of domestic abuse including physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, and financial
  • Referring clients into behaviour change programmes

At the foundation of all DASV training is an understanding and awareness of controlling and coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship.

This training is only available free to individuals who work and/or reside in Cornwall & Isles of Scilly, United Kingdom.

This training is funded only for individuals who work and/or reside in Cornwall & Isles of Scilly, United Kingdom. If you are booking with an address outside of Cornwall, please contact us via email in advance to ensure your booking is not cancelled. Out of county bookings will be cancelled without warning. If you would like this training for your team, we would be happy to discuss your requirements.

The training will be held at:

Pydar House, Pydar Street, Truro, Cornwall , TR1 1XU

There is no free parking available but plenty of nearby paid car parks and the Truro Park and Ride.

Training will start promptly at the time specified, with a safety and caution briefing. Therefore, late attendees will not be admitted, and you will be marked as a non-attendee. This is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all attendees.

Swapping your place with a colleague on the day is not permitted. Only the attendee registered will be admitted to the training on the day.

Cancellations can be made through your Eventbrite account, or via 'Manage my booking' on the original booking confirmation. Non-attendance and failure to cancel your booking will result in an email sent to your line manager with details of the missed session, and the commissioning team will be made aware of repeat non-attendance.

By booking a space on training, you understand that your booking information will be shared with Cornwall Council, commissioners, and funding providers as part of funding requirements.

A link to resources will be included in the training, and post course resources sent out afterwards.
