Courage: An Exhibit by Filipino Sculptor Elaine Antonio Bordeaux

In celebration of Philippine-American Friendship Day, the 78th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and the United States of America, the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco is co-hosting “Courage”—a week-long solo exhibition of Colorado-based Filipino sculptor Elaine Antonio Bordeaux.

The art exhibit will showcase Bordeaux’s collection of bronze sculptures, a fusion of Filipino cultural elements, with a deep exploration of courage and heroism.

The exhibit’s highlight is the unveiling of a sculpture of Filipino war heroine Magdalena Leones, the only Asian Silver Star Awardee for her heroism during World War II. Leones played a pivotal role in the resistance movement in the Philippines. Her acts of valor, including gathering critical intelligence and assisting guerrilla forces, are immortalized in Bordeaux’s latest masterpiece.

Bordeaux’s art reflects her heritage rooted in the Philippines, her life experiences as an immigrant in the United States, and her dreams and aspirations for her people.

Join us for an opening reception on 8 July 2024, 6:00 p.m., at the Kalayaan Hall, Philippine Center, 447 Sutter Street, San Francisco, California 94108 (behind Union Square). The opening night will feature an exclusive preview of the exhibit. Guests will have the unique opportunity to engage with the artist, gaining insights into her creative process and the inspirations behind her stunning works.
