Tucson Rodeo Foundation Country Classic Dance-A-ThonNovember 16 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Hosted at the renowned Maverick, this event combines the excitement of a Country Dance with a Country Costume Contest, followed by Couples Country Swing Dance and Jack and Jill Competitions. Whether you are an experienced country dancer or a seasoned swing dance competitor, this Dance-A-Thon offers a memorable opportunity to engage with fellow enthusiasts.
Enjoy an afternoon of lively country music provided by Pork Chop, participate in engaging dance and costume contests, and compete in dynamic dance events. Attendees will have a platform to demonstrate their skills before an enthusiastic audience while supporting the Tucson Rodeo Foundation’s fundraising initiatives.
The event kicks off at 1:00PM, Sunday November 16th with a 2 hour Country Dance and Western Costume Contest. Winners will take home the Grand Prize: a day at the rodeo Thursday, February 26, 2026. The package includes two tickets for the Tucson Rodeo Parade and two seats in the Vaquero Club for the rodeo performance! This will be followed by the Swing Dance Contest at 3:00PM and the Jack and Jill competition at 4:00PM. The afternoon will also feature opportunities to win raffle prizes, bid in a silent auction and participate in a 50/50 raffle and a belt buckle raffle. The raffles will run throughout the event with the winners announced at the end of the Jack and Jill event.

Country Dance and Western Costume Contest
We ask that all dancers in the Western Dance Costume Contest wear their favorite western attire, such as cowboy hats, jeans, boots, and western-style shirts or to come dressed as your favorite western character from history, TV, movies or books. To win, contestants should focus on creativity, originality, effort, and a compelling presentation of their chosen western persona.
Swing Dance Contest – Couples Entry
Judging criteria:
Timing: Timing points are determined by the ability of the dancer to dance on the downbeat of the music and to include syncopations that are also on the beats of the music.
Technique: “How Well You Do What You Do”: We are looking for good footwork, balance, control, frame, and how well turns & spins are executed. Well-controlled arms & hands.
Teamwork: The ability of the partners to work together as a team. One person should not be obviously “out dancing” the other. TEAMWORK with action-reaction is essential in good dancing.
Content: “What You Do”: the content is the CHOREOGRAPHY, planned or spontaneous, and musical interpretation through physical movement. Showing variety and contrast will enhance your dance performance.
Showmanship: “How Well You Sell What You Do”: showmanship/presentation is the ability
“Jack and Jill” competition – Solo Entries
The Jack & Jill competitions are designed to highlight social dance skills in spontaneous swing dancing and the ability to dance well with a variety of partners. The “luck of the draw” comes into play as well.
Format: Competitors enter as individuals, are randomly assigned partners, and dance to music selected by the Competition DJ. Depending on the number of entries, preliminary and final rounds may be held.
Judging criteria will be the same as the Swing Dance Contest.
