Developing your Skills at Countering Climate Misinformation and Disinformation
This zoom program will offer a brief overview of the differences between misinformation and disinformation. We will discuss effective countering communication strategies and focus on how to respond to mis/disinformation being shared on social media, statements by the current anti-climate administration and in conversations with family and colleagues. Participants will practice addressing mis/disinformation and we will provide feedback to each other. If you can, bring examples of faulty information about climate that you have encountered and would like us to counter.

After a satisfying academic career as professor, faculty coach and administrator, Phyllis now devotes full time to advocating for reducing the effects of the climate crisis and helping people understand how this existential threat is affecting them and their future generations. Trained by the professionals at the Union of Concerned Scientists and the Sierra Club on how best to handle Climate Misinformation and Disinformation, she is active offering trainings to environmental organizations that are working at the local, state, and national levels. Phyllis is on the Steering Committee for the Jewish Earth Alliance and is the environmental suitability advocate for her conservative synagogue, Beth Am Israel, Penn Valley, PA.
