About this Event
Right brain psychotherapy the use of art and the art of countertransference: implications for forensic psychotherapy; (based on a paper co-written by Prof Leslie Lothstein Yale University 2003/4)
Gilligan (1996) noted trauma begins in the home and spreads out across all communities. Harris, Kalb, Klebanoff et.al. (2018) noted that “ghosts” in the consultation room echo traumas from early childhood, leading to a shutting down of the emotional self which often appears in psychoanalyses. Some of these children as adults become forensic psychotherapy patients. Some are stuck in their psychotherapies for years and are unable to disclose truths about themselves. Their therapists may also feel empty and dread the sessions. The use of art as part of right brain psychotherapy (Schore 2019) can overcome verbal resistance in the patient and negative countertransference in the therapist, this talk explores this new and emerging filed within psychotherapy.
