This immersive event invites you to engage in a hands-on contemporary art experience, witness a stunning performance by a Salt Contemporary Dance- Salt Lake’s most cutting edge and technically virtuosic dance company, and become part of the creative process by collaborating with dancers to craft a unique contemporary dance piece. Don’t just watch—create, move, and be inspired!
The evening will begin with an interactive lecture demonstration, where dancers and visual artists will explore the intersection of contemporary art and contemporary dance, providing the audience with tools to understand and appreciate both. Following the lecture demonstration, SALT Contemporary Dance will present a performance offering a unique "inside look" at the creative process, showcasing how art is made through improvisational skills and on-the-spot creation. The audience will be invited to participate in community art-making, guided by the performers. The show will culminate in a repertory excerpt from SALT Contemporary Dance and an invitation to the audience to further engage with the arts in Cottonwood Heights.
SALT Contemporary Dance is a nationally recognized dance company based in Salt Lake City. Founded in 2013, their innovative and engaging performances have earned them critical acclaim. Notably, the Executive Director of SALT Contemporary Dance, Michelle Neilson, grew up in Cottonwood Heights and is a graduate of Butler Middle and Brighton High schools, making this performance a special homecoming and a point of pride for the community. Their commitment to community engagement and arts education makes them an ideal partner for this event.
