Drag Performers: crowd-dazzlers, story-tellers, lore-keepers, world-changers. The fundamentals of drag performance sings true with the leading figures of folk tradition. The druids, healers, elders, and fools of rural communities play a vital role in the chaotically elegant nature of keeping our heritage alive.
Drag as contemporary folk-culture is the concept we’ll be exploring in this session. Through group workshopping we’ll discuss how personal identity informs our creative practice, and how playing with scrap/found material becomes an effective Dadaist tool we can utilise to create powerful drag, folk costumes, and armour for the 21st century.
Be bold; be foolish; be joyous, young performers: you are the keepers of our bright pasts and the makers of our palpable futures, make sure you look the part!
IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Buoys Buoys Buoys is wearing a welsh hat with a face painted white, green and red. His costume is made of odd socks. Text reads 'Costume making using scrap material. A drag workshop with queer folk artist Buoys Buoys Buoys.'
