About this Event
CoSTAR Live Lab is a state-of-the-art research and development facility being created by the University of York at Production Park in Wakefield. Live Lab is a core component of CoSTAR, the £75.6m UK R&D network for creative technology, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).
CoSTAR Live Lab will bring together cutting-edge facilities and expertise to support research and development exploring future live performance experiences, from small-scale pilots to arena-sized productions. This will include:
- providing research and development (R&D) capabilities to develop innovative, low-cost technologies and efficient workflows to transform the live performance sector
- enabling commercialisation of research and novel technologies that are close to market and shaped by the needs of industry
- incubating startups and high-growth small and medium enterprises (SMEs)
- delivering an access programme to enable public and industry participation in R&D activities, workshops, networking events, technology showcases, lectures and symposia
CoSTAR Live Lab is a project tasked with developing infrastructure that maintains the UK’s world-leading position in the creative industries. For this reason, it is both our commitment, and essential for our success, to ensure academic researchers in our remit area are able to benefit from the new capability we are creating.
In this session, we will provide an introduction to the CoSTAR Live Lab for research staff and students. We will describe a range of potential ways that researchers at different career stages might access and benefit from the infrastructure we are developing, including upcoming funding opportunities that can support you in engaging with what we have to offer. Examples of ways that York researchers might benefit from CoSTAR Live Lab could include, but are not limited to: participating in skill development activities run as part of our Access Programme; accessing facilities in collaborative research projects and support for funding proposals in our remit area; developing connections with our network of industry partners and users to drive new research questions and facilitate impact.
At the end of the session there will be an opportunity to network with representatives from our team to tell us how a facility like CoSTAR Live Lab can help you achieve your research goals, the mechanisms needed to make this possible and practical for you, and to ideate and discuss opportunities for access and collaboration.
After you have signed up for the event, we will give you the choice to complete a brief access rider form, which will help us to ensure that our event is planned to accommodate your needs. If you would like to attend, but are unable due to the proposed time, or for any other reason, we would really like to hear from you ([email protected]). Your feedback will enable us to learn about how we can make future events and activities as accessible as possible to everyone who is interested.
