Sipnosis: Carolina returns to Costa Rica to try to rebuild the relationship with her father. After a few months, her father is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

At that moment, Carolina meets Ifigenia, an archaeologist expert in the stone spheres found in the south of Costa Rica; the country's great enigma. She decides to follow Ifigenia's journey through an erased indigenous history.

Through objects and their stories, Carolina learns a different way to relate to death.

Director biography: Carolina Arias Ortiz was born in Costa Rica in 1987. Then 12 years old she migrated with her mother and sister to Brussels, in Belgium. Her concerns for understanding cultural differences lead her to study anthropology. Then, her fascination with images and sound, made her explore cinema and audiovisual language. In 2010 she travelled to Barcelona to receive a postgraduate degree in documentary cinema after which she decided to return to Latin America and she settled in Quito, Ecuador for 4 years. She worked in different indigenous territories and with women's organizations.
She currently lives in Costa Rica where she works teaching anthropology and film. she also develops documentary projects with her production company "Mito Producciones". she is now writing her PhD thesis about film, gender and family archives at the University of Costa Rica.
Her first film Rebel Objects was released at IDFA 2020. The film won several prizes around the world and was programmed in more than 20 international festivals.
She is also writing her second feature film "Like flame lit in the dark night", that received the Bertha Fund for development.

Sipnosis: Carolina regresa a Costa Rica para intentar reconstruir la relación con su padre. Al cabo de unos meses, a su padre le diagnostican un cáncer de páncreas.

En ese momento, Carolina conoce a Ifigenia, una arqueóloga experta en las esferas de piedra encontradas en el sur de Costa Rica; el gran enigma del país. Decide seguir el viaje de Ifigenia a través de una historia indígena olvidada.

A través de los objetos y sus historias, Carolina aprende otra forma de relacionarse con la muerte.

Biografía de la directora: Carolina Arias Ortiz nació en Costa Rica en 1987. A los 12 años emigró con su madre y su hermana a Bruselas, en Bélgica. Su interés por comprender las diferencias culturales la llevó a estudiar antropología. Luego, su fascinación por las imágenes y el sonido la llevó a explorar el cine y el lenguaje audiovisual. En 2010 viajó a Barcelona para obtener un posgrado en cine documental, después de lo cual decidió regresar a América Latina y se estableció en Quito, Ecuador, durante 4 años. Trabajó en diferentes territorios indígenas y con organizaciones de mujeres.

Actualmente vive en Costa Rica, donde trabaja enseñando antropología y cine. También desarrolla proyectos documentales con su productora "Mito Producciones". Actualmente está escribiendo su tesis de doctorado sobre cine, género y archivos familiares en la Universidad de Costa Rica.

Su primera película, "Objetos rebeldes", se estrenó en el IDFA 2020. La película ganó varios premios en todo el mundo y fue programada en más de 20 festivales internacionales.

También está escribiendo su segunda película, "Como llama encendida en la noche oscura", que recibió el Fondo Bertha para el desarrollo.
