Corvallis Fusion Dance \/\/ May 11th

It's our first event in Corvallis! Our Fusion Dance venue is unique—be sure to read our community agreements (listed below) before attending. Also, please note that our particular vibe is on the slower side—the music will be a varied mix of modern sultry & downtempo beats.
Fusion Dance is simply fusing your movement with any dance partner to any music. It draws its foundation from the expressive and grounded movements of slow Lindy Hop, and welcomes elements from Blues Dance, Tango, West Coast Swing, Waltz, and even Contact Improv. It is characterized by partner connection, fluidity, gracefulness, and often close embrace. There’s a strong emphasis on improvisation, allowing dancers to create their own style in response to the music and their partner's lead/follow.
This event is for all levels, from beginners to skilled fusion dancers. To ensure we are all dancing with the same fundamentals and floorcraft, everybody is requested to attend the 7:15pm lesson unless you already have solid experience in fusion dance or a framed partner dance form (Note: Contact Improv and Ecstatic Dance are not framed partner dance). Plan your arrival so that you have time to park and get settled in before the lesson begins.

OUR COMMUNITY AGREEMENTS
⦾ No Street Shoes: We encourage bare feet, socks, or dance paws! Non-marking soft-soled shoes or ballroom shoes are also acceptable. No shoes that have been worn on the street and no boots.
⦾ Don't Spread Covid: Masks are optional and welcome. Do not attend if you have ANY symptoms of respiratory illness or had direct exposure to covid in the last week.
⦾ Honor Fusion Floorcraft: Floorcraft is basic dance navigation and etiquette, with an emphasis on avoiding collisions. For everyone's safety, rolling on the ground and lifting/flying are not permitted in this space. Please join us because you want to improvise in a grounded partner frame (rather than solo dance or straight-up Contact Improv).
⦾ Be Inclusive: All are welcome. We dance free of normative gender roles.
⦾ Be Clear Minded: We dance free of alcohol and other inebriating substances.
⦾ Be Clean: Please arrive fresh with a clean body and clothes, as some of us are very sensitive to strong body odors or any scented products (including essential oils).
OUR TEACHER THIS MONTH
Sigh O'Nara dances and teaches in Eugene. In the year 2000 he started dancing ballroom, and then in 2008 he found Blues—a spiritual ancestor to what folks call Fusion. He dances regularly and has attended numerous multi-day workshops over the years. His passion for fusion dance and the connection just keeps growing.
