Inscriptions of every genre decorating the public edifices of our cities give us clues about the history of the building and the community centred around us. This lecture introduces the University of Malta's Corpus Inscriptionum Melitensium under the care and direction of the Department of Classics and Archaeology, bringing together inscriptions from the Jesuit Oratory and Church in conversation and comparison with others to shed light on the importance of these inscriptions in reconstructing and understanding the location's cultural heritage.Skye Vassallo is currently a Research Support Officer within the Department of Classics and Archaeology at UM, focused on the Corpus Inscriptionum Melitensium project, a work-in-progress database for Malta's Latin Inscriptions. Vassallo graduated from the University of Malta in 2023 with a B.A. in Classics (Hons) with philosophy. Her research interests include Latin in the early-modern period and Latin usage among Maltese authors of the same period.
