Join us at the museum for an evening of Cornish carols!Cornish carols are unique and have a long history which deserves recognition. From the simple folk carols to the more ornate ‘carol-hymns’ by Thomas Merritt, these carols are part of Cornwall’s rich communal singing.
The Red River Singers, based in Pool and named after the nearby river, are a Cornish folk choir who began life in 2012. They sing monthly at The Countryman Inn at Piece and specialise in Cornish songs, including the well-known pub songs, carols, folksongs and those in the Cornish language. During the winter of 2019 they recorded an album of some of the classic Cornish Carols called Arise & Sing and have sung these carols at many events including those for the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies at many churches and at Truro Cathedral.
They are led by Hilary Coleman, Cornish bard and musician, who co-authored the book, ‘Hark! The Glad Sound of Cornish Carols’, in 2017 which received an Holyer An Gof award in 2018 as well as the Publishers Cup.
