About this Event
A workshop for all ages, including family groups, making corn dollies. Join Anna and Rosie from CoCreate and make beautiful and traditional corn dollies from harvested wheat, ready for our 4pm autumnal procession in the woods.
This workshop is repeated at 1.30pm and 2.30pm. Please ensure you have selected the correct time slot for you.
Children will need to be accompanied and supervised by an adult.
After the workshops, join us for our fireside story circle where your dolly will become part of the stories. There will be plenty of opportunities for everyone to participate whilst learning about the ancient traditions of corn dollies, their roles in giving thanks for this year's and future harvests! A corn dolly isn't a dolly at all, but a form of decorative straw work traditionally made at harvest time. The corn dolly was believed to house the spirit of the crop which was kept indoors over winter then ploughed back into the ground in the spring.
The procession will meet at the Slades Pavilion at 4pm, before we head off together to the event space in the woods, gathering around the fire basket for the stories. The event will end around 5pm. You are welcome to stay longer however, and might like to bring a picnic or marshmallows for enjoying around the fire after the stories.
Please be aware we have observed light numbers of midge in the area, particularly during still weather. The fire smoke should deter them, but you might like to wear insect repellent cream if you are prone to irritation from the bites.
