-Private Language was born in a Bridgeport, CT basement laundry room in 2017. The almost-spring air held fast to the crisp smell of dryer sheets. A bowl of homemade Thai food sat atop Nikolai’s floor tom. After studying the meal silently for several moments, Ryan suggested ‘we should find more members to round out the sound.’
Over the next few years, they would add more members. Matthew and James found their places in the lineup and together the four ventured out of their Bridgeport Basement laundry room. They left behind Mr. Clean and Snuggles the bear and brought with them the burning desire to share their unique brand of indie rock with the outside world.
Their first official show as a 4-piece was a middle school fundraiser at The Spoke and Hub in Bridgeport. Since then they’ve played many venues throughout the Northeast US from Portland, ME to Brooklyn, NY.
Brian Slattery of the New Haven Independent described Private Language as “a band that was fun and thoughtful, introspective and engaging” and their live set as having “an unfussy beauty.”
Private Language’s music is available on band camp and many streaming platforms.
