A strong core is vital to healthy, pain-free movement. If you often have pain in your low back, hips, knees, neck, and/or shoulders, you’d probably benefit from strengthening your core.Why, you ask? If your abdominal muscles are weak, your body will rely on your low back muscles to support and stabilize your movement. Your low back muscles aren’t designed for this job, so they get fatigued and tight, resulting in pain. If you’re lacking core strength, this type of compensation can happen in many parts of your body, resulting in muscular tension and pain.
How do you fix it? First, you must establish good communication between your brain and your abdominal muscles. Only then should you begin working on slow, strategic strengthening.
It’s very important to go slowly for best results. Doing too much too soon will cause your body revert to your old, familiar, dysfunctional movement habits.
