The VFGPA will be holding an additional CORE course Saturday and Sunday 15 and 16 June at the Esquimalt Anglers Association clubhouse, from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm on both days,. The course fee is $150 for adults, and $75 for youth. FYI, the course content includes:
· Ground selection
· Preys' eyes, hunters' eyes
· Finding/seeing game
· Whitetail vs mule, buck vs doe
· Fitness considerations, team makeup
· Optics: Scope/binocular, laser range (selection and applications)
· Rifle/caliber selection
· Normal (< 150 yard) shooting considerations – long(er) distance shooting considerations
· Scouting & ambush, vs stalking, merits of each
· Ungulate anatomy/physiology
· Field dressing (includes training/practice on either killed-that-morning sheep, or a recent deer)
· Relationships with game cutters, landowners, Conservation Officers, and other parties out there. For most courses, a Conservation Officer drops by for a Q and A session
· Hunt site schematic
· Bear considerations
About David the instructor:
· B.C. Hunter Training/CORE instructor/examiner, since 1981.
· Canadian Firearms/Restricted Firearms instructor/examiner, since the program's inception (instructor certification card # 0007)
· Active hunter since 1967 with bow, shotgun, and rifle, multiple successful for: deer (both), bear, moose, sheep (both), bison, predators, waterfowl, and upland birds
· B.Ed, UVic, 1981
· Current membership in B.C. College of Teachers, and a continuing member in good standing from that college's first day.
· Teacher in rural schools, 1981-1997, outdoor education, and biology.
· Commercial/coastal float pilot since 1990.
· Industrial ambulance/medic, since 1997.
· Nurse (emerg, med/surg, O.R., rehab) 2001-2013.
