Target Audience: People who work or volunteer with children and young people and may be in a position to spot safeguarding concerns.
This covers safeguarding for children from birth until their 18th birthday.
Session Aim:
This course will provide participants with learning that will help them to meet the Core Competencies of the LLR Safeguarding Children Competency Framework. It is a foundation course for those who are in positions where they may spot safeguarding concerns, or someone may tell them that they are being harmed.
Session Objectives:
- Understand what is meant by safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and how this impacts on your role.
- Understand the legal context of safeguarding
- Know the different forms of abuse and neglect
- Be aware of some of the signs and indicators that might cause concern
- Know what makes children and young people more vulnerable to abuse and neglect
- Understand the statutory requirements governing consent, confidentiality and information sharing
- Understand recording and reporting procedures within the context of your own work
- Understand the barriers to sharing concerns
