About the Book:
Los desaparecidos del castrismo: Cuba desde 1959 by Daniel I. Pedreira is a poignant and deeply researched chronicle of Cuba’s political repression under the Castro regime. Focusing on the disappearances of over 600 individuals since 1959, Pedreira draws from archival documents, interviews, and testimonies to illuminate the stories of those who vanished—often without any acknowledgment from the government. Pedreira collaborates with organizations such as Cuba Archive, the Instituto de la Memoria Histórica Cubana contra el Totalitarismo, and the Association of Families of Disappeared Cubans (AFACUDE), to construct a historical record that challenges Cuba’s official narrative. Written in Spanish and published by Alexandria Library Publishing House in 2025, the book serves not just as a scholarly work but as a memorial for those lost to state violence. With its blend of historical rigor and personal testimonials, it urges international human rights institutions to acknowledge and address Cuba’s legacy of suppression.
