For this year’s Copenhagen Jazz Festival, The 5to8’s are teaming up with Marathon Monks for a full night of funk, soul and hip hop – covering a wide landscape from futuristic to old school, from instrumental to highly vocal, from trio to nine people (or more) on stage. ABOUT MARATHON MONKS
Fresh off their performance in DR Koncertsal, Marathon Monks are sharing the H15 stage for a double concert with the 5to8’s. Marathon Monks is one of several projects that 5to8’s members are involved in: drummer Minh Lê and keyboardist Phong Lê form a trio with bass player Fredrik Damsgaard.
With two old Höfner basses, oscillating synthesizers, groovy drums, chattering percussion, and well-deployed silence the trio create their very own universe – sometimes dark, sometimes fun – but always funky! Marathon Monks are: Fredrik Damsgaard (Höfner bass), Phong Lê (Höfner bass / keyboards), Minh Lê (drums / samples)
ABOUT THE 5TO8'S
The 5to8's are a Copenhagen collective of musicians and singers playing live soul, hip hop and funk music. Original material, music created on the spot, and jams over hip hop and soul classics make up the shows. No two nights are the same.
The 5to8’s are: Kuku Agami (vocals), Jaleesa Johnson (vocals), Jonas Rendbo (vocals), Jonas Winge Leisner (vocals), Hannibal Gustafsson (guitar), Daniel Fridell (keyboards), Phong Lê (keyboards), Mogens Palsbøll (bass), Minh Lê (drums).
