Consider taking the training to become a facilitator of Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience (COPE). In a weekend, learn an experiential approach to developing life skills such as leadership, teamwork, trust, planning, problem solving, decision making, self-esteem, and communication. This approach is based on activities and nontraditional, non-competitive games. You will learn that basics of facilitating leadership development sessions which can be tailored to your unit’s needs. This training also qualifies you to be part of the instructor team for the high and low elements of the Jack Zeiger Project COPE Course on the Anthony Wayne Scout Reservation. The COPE facilitator training session will be held at Camp Chief Little Turtle (2282 West 500 South, Pleasant Lake, IN). Training starts at 7:00 pm on Friday May 9 and ends at approximately 4pm on Sunday May 11. Food will be provided (Saturday breakfast to Sunday lunch). Cost: $55
Students should bring personal hygiene materials, sleeping materials (pillow, sleeping bag or blankets), a personal tent, and parts A&B of your BSA medical form.
Participants are asked to complete Climb on Safely Training prior to attending. This training is online, takes less than 15 minutes, and is available at https://training.scouting.org/
Please tell us about any personal dietary issues (such as food allergies, religious restrictions).
Registration is open to adults and youth over the age of 16 who are registered with BSA. NCAP standard SQ-409 allow youth who are 16 years of age to perform as “COPE Instructors in Training” (can act as facilitators, but not count for staffing ratio), and 18 years of age to perform as COPE Instructors (count for staffing ratios).
