Join us this month for an exciting hands-on activity presented by the Oak Spring Garden Foundation in partnership with the Fauquier County Public Library- Marshall! Kids (ages 6-11) and teens (ages 12-18) are invited to Cook Something Awesome! This month, everyone will cook and learn how to make Dutch stamppot--a traditional comfort food dish from the Netherlands. Using crops from the Oak Spring Biocultural Conservation Farm, kids will make stamppot using kale, mashed potatoes with freshly churned butter, topped with smoky sausages.
Everyone will also learn about the tulip flower, the iconic symbol of the Netherlands and why Mrs. Mellon used her cold frames for the bulbs! You'll also go home with a few bulbs to plant. It's a fun and free way to learn new skills, get artsy, and connect with the natural world.
Each month, OSGF hosts a different free, nature-inspired activity at local libraries, offering a unique opportunity for young minds to engage with the environment in fun, interactive ways. Don’t miss out on October's event, and be sure to follow us for each month's new theme!
Walk-ins welcome! Go to your library’s website for more info at the link provided.
