About this Event

Welcome to the Convivo Series - Verdi's Aida!

Join us for an evening of music and love in the month of February as Conductor Sabatino Vacca gives us a preview of the Sothern Ontario Lyric Opera’s March performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida.

At its heart, Aida is a tragic love triangle set in a time of conflict. The Egyptian soldier, Radames, has secretly fallen in love with Aida, an Ethiopian prisoner of war. Aida, the Princess of Ethiopia, has kept her royal identity a secret, as well as the fact that she is in love with Radames.

Experience a captivating preview of Aida as the Maestro unveils the opera’s dramatic storyline, highlights its iconic arias, and explores Verdi’s unmistakable style. The evening includes a special live performance by a featured cast member, offering an inspiring glimpse into the upcoming production.

Attendees will receive a voucher for $10 off tickets to the performance at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre on Saturday March 7th at 7:30 p.m.

Southern Ontario Lyric Opera (SOLO) has a strong outreach and education mandate as we serve the cultural needs of the community through Opera. We find that Education = Appreciation. The more we can educate our community about Opera, the more the community can appreciate and understand the gift of Opera! As such we hope you can join us for this event especially if you are considering attending the performance on March 7th. Conductor Sabatino Vacca will examine the story and themes of Verdi’s Aida with an engaging behind-the-scenes look at one of opera’s most gripping masterpieces. The opera spotlights the conflict between love, and loyalty to country. It presents the tragic and personal consequences of war. Whether you're a seasoned opera lover or new to the genre, this event promises to deepen your appreciation for Verdi's genius and the enduring impact of Aida. As well as sharing details and the history about the opera, Sabatino will have audiovisual highlights from the opera. You will also be delighted to hear their Radamès, lead tenor Andrew Derynck who will perform live during this Talk! There will also be plenty of time for questions and comments.
