This is a 4-week program , on Tuesdays (April 16th to May 7th) from 5pm to 7pm at Robert Lee YMCA

Are you a newcomer to Canada, eager to participate in the Vancouver BMO Marathon or lend your support as a volunteer?

Look no further: join the YTeam and the RUN FOR YOUR WHY 4-week program.

Whether you're aiming to run the marathon, half marathon, or 8K, or contribute as a cheerleader for fellow runners, this program offers comprehensive training, invaluable support, and a sense of community like no other. Join us as we embark on a journey to achieve our marathon goals and uplift others through volunteerism.



Program :


<h4>Week 1 : April 16 - Welcome run!</h4>
  • Dynamic fitness class (legs/abs/cardio) and a 5k run
  • Reflection on the reasons behind running and supporting
  • Tips for injury prevention and maintaining motivation
  • Guidance on choosing appropriate gear for different conditions
  • Strategies for supporting runners and fundraising for charity marathons
  • Inspirational testimonials from successful fundraisers


<h4>Week 2 : April 23 - Rest, nutrition and recovery management</h4>
  • Dynamic fitness class (legs/abs/cardio) and a 5k run
  • Learning effective stretching and recovery techniques
  • Receiving nutritional guidance tailored for marathon runners, including recipes and advice for maintaining a balanced diet during training
  • Understanding the significance of hydration before, during, and after training
  • Recognizing the importance of adequate sleep for optimal performance
  • Incorporating rest days strategically into the training program


<h4>Week 3 : April 30 - Mental preparation, you'll never run alone!</h4>
  • A dedicated stretching session to enhance flexibility and prevent injuries
  • Learning visualization and concentration techniques to mentally prepare for the marathon
  • Strategies for managing stress and emotions both before and during the race
  • Tips for overcoming mental challenges and maintaining focus
  • Recognizing the crucial role of supporters in achieving marathon success
  • Exploring creative ideas for cheering on fellow participants on race day
  • Guidance on creating a positive and energetic atmosphere surrounding the event


<h4>Week 4 : May 7 - Stretching and Time to celebrate the YTeam!</h4>
  • Engage in post-marathon recovery with a focus on stretching and massage techniques to alleviate muscle soreness and aid in recovery
  • Have the opportunity to share their marathon experience with fellow YTeam members, fostering a sense of camaraderie and accomplishment
  • Celebrate their achievements with a shared potluck, where participants can relax, unwind, and enjoy each other's company in a supportive environment

When: Tuesdays, April 16th to May 7th

Time: 5pm – 7pm (Please be punctual, as the program will start on time )

Where: Robert Lee YMCA - 955 Burrard St.

Required: Proof of eligibility: PR Card, or landing papers( please note you are only required to show your proof of status, we do not keep your papers), intermediate English proficiency, and interest in pursuing a career in childcare. You must commit to 4 weeks of attendance.

If this is your first event with YMCA Immigrant Services please remember to fill out an application form that will be emailed directly to you. Please complete and email it to [email protected]. Please note, you will be required to show a copy of your PR card or landing document as proof of eligibility BEFORE being accepted to the program.

YMCA Immigrant Services has a 2-time no show policy. This means that if you register but do not attend an event you will be added to our no show list. If this happens 2 times, you will no longer be able to attend any YMCA events. Please help us to avoid this negative situation by cancelling your ticket if you know you cannot attend an event. Do this by visiting Eventbrite.ca . This is the best way: Just log in to Eventbrite, Go to the Tickets page, and locate your order.
