This series of events hopes to bring people together for an informal evening to learn more about what is going on in the local community of Newquay. Each week a different guest speaker will be featured and interviewed in a live podcast style.We want to get to know the faces behind the scenes of these innovative and creative projects happening on our doorsteps.
Coffee on the Corner is a cosy and welcoming space perfect to relax into the evening with refreshments including, coffee, beer, prosecco and soft drinks which wil be available throughout the event.
Please note that every ticket includes £3.00 towards your first drink so please make sure that you bring a copy to redeem at the bar.
These are small scale events with only 25 tickets available for each conversation so please get in touch if you are unable to make it so that we can refund you and re-sell your ticket :-)

Thursday 17th March
Dicky Souray - Dicky 'Drawstring' Souray is fascinated by the art of drawing people together and what follows when this happens. With a varied professional and personal background amidst performance, holding space and the power of words, Dicky is particularly interested in gathering people in these contexts. In 2017 he started SproutSpoken on a whim, which has grown from strength to strength through a combination of his brute force lustiness and the amazing response of the community it has impacted.
Thursday 31st March
Katie Richards - Katie is one of the founding members of SwimminWimmin CIC. Born in Cornwall she spent her childhood growing up mainly around horses. Once grown she moved away to travel, study and have her son. Returning to Cornwall after the break-up of her marriage, she took to the sea and reached out to like-minded women to meet and take to the water under the umbrella of the 'Bluetits'. Since then, she has created a strong community of women who collectively have raised an impressive amount of money for local charities.
Thursday 14th April
Pauline Spearpoint- Pauline is a huge believer in fate which has led her to many interesting life experiences. After spending 25 years in London as a successful entrepreneur Pauline was then able to move to Cornwall and give her time to projects including Rafi and friends and Newquay Renaissance Project. While listening to the radio Pauline first heard the voice of Hamsa, an English teacher from Homs, Syria. Pauline then made it her mission to get in contact with Hamsa. A growing friendship led to a documentary being made and a series of children's books about 'Rafi the Refugee rabbit'. More recently during the Covid- 19 pandemic Pauline also created the Newquay Renaissance group, a new community arts project with a focus on the environment.
Thursday 28th April
Chantal Shears - In 2016, mother of four Chantal Shears founded The Clothes Horse to ease financial burden on families in Cornwall and to address the environmental impact of the clothing Industry, by offering free, pre-loved children's clothes. The Clothes Horse is committed to replacing 'fast fashion' with 'circular fashion'.
The evening with Chantal will feature a clothes rail that attendees can add clothing items to swap and donate. Bring something that you no longer wear and hang it on the rail. Who knows maybe you will bring that perfect item for someone else, or support Chantal's efforts to combat this ever-growing issue!
Thursday 12th May
Jenna Grassick - Jenna is involved with Kernow Connect a nonprofit organisation who provide a range of universal, targeted and specialist services to young people aged 11- 19 and those up to 25 with SEND in Cornwall. Kernow Connect provides support that enables young people to meet friends, have someone to talk to and be listened to. Jenna also leads the Newquay 'Georgia's voice' group that gather every other Thursday at The Coffee on The Corner, this group provides a confidential and safe place for young women aged between 18- 25 to come together, establish friendships and talk openly about mental health.
Thursday 26th May
Marie Ralph - Marie is one of the founding directors of Youth Art Connect, a community interest company that promotes the positive benefits of art on mental health for young people and adults. Marie is an autistic, disabled, single mum of two beautifully unique and quirky boys. Using her own life experiences, she loves to give back to the local community through the voluntary work that she is involved with. Youth Art Connect is going from strength to strength as they make their way across Cornwall sharing their love of arts with as many people as they can.
