About this Event
This training is only for City of Detroit employees.
Conversational French enables participants to communicate with the French-speaking diaspora.
Detroit’s Historical French Roots
Spanning 1200 years of evolution and continuing to influence the global geo-political landscape, French once served as Detroit's lingua franca when Antoine Laumet de la Mothe, Sieur de Cadillac founded Detroit's fledgling colony in 1701. Back then, French enveloped business and social communications, influencing literature, science and technology, and culture.
Contemporary Conversational French
Today, this Conversational French's pedagogical framework remains the same: to acquire competency in practically conversing in the language. For 2 hours/week spanning 10 weeks, participants shall didactically immerse themselves and constructively build their French-language skills.
This Conversational French Course’s Goals
Thus, if you desire to communicate in French, this Conversational French course aims to:
1. Refine your semantic, phonetic, syntactic, and pragmatic communication of the French language.
2. Target vocabulary, enabling you to converse in simulated real-world contexts.
3. Provide a hands-on approach so that you reinforce your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills using real-life scenarios.
4. Boost your confidence in communicating in a second language.
