Join us at the Museum for a special conversation with Romeo Okwara ’16. After playing on the Irish defensive line from 2012–2015 and graduating from Notre Dame with an accounting degree, Okwara spent eight seasons playing in the NFL before retiring from the Detroit Lions in 2024. Throughout, Okwara nurtured his photographic eye, leading him to pursue his passion for the arts full-time in the next phase of his professional career. Okwara will talk about his artistic practice—which at times buoyed his football playing career and sometimes competed with it—as he works toward a Master of Fine Arts degree at the Cranbrook Academy of Art and his emerging role as a collector and supporter of the arts through Middle Gray, a residency program he established in Detroit for photographers.Okwara will be joined in conversation by Robin Rhodes, professor emeritus of art history, who encouraged him to tend to his interest in the arts.
