This is an opportunity for Georgetown faculty and students to converse with Prof. Thomas Williams about his life of scholarship.
About this Event

Thomas Williams is the Isabelle A. and Henry D. Martin Professor of Medieval Philosophy at Georgetown University. He has written widely on medieval philosophy and theology, with particular interests in ethics, philosophy of religion, and the theology of atonement. His translations include Augustine's Confessions (Hackett, 2019), John Duns Scotus: Selected Writings on Ethics (OUP, 2017), and Anselm: The Complete Treatises with Selected Letters and Prayers and the Meditation on Human Redemption (Hackett, 2022). His book on Anselm for OUP's Very Short Introductions series is in press. An Episcopal priest, Williams has served for several years as the canon theologian of the Cathedral Church of St. Peter in St. Petersburg, Florida.

On Wed., Sept. 25, he will be delivering the 10th Annual Costan Lecture in Early Christianity. His lecture is entitled “Augustine on the Saving Work of Christ.” This Conversation is a follow-up to that Lecture. It is an opportunity to discuss his ideas further, both from the lecture and from his books and papers, and to discuss his life as a scholar more broadly.

Open to Georgetown students and faculty. Please contact [email protected] for pre-distributed papers.
