Experience the powerful connection between movement and art at Cameron Art Museum with Contemporary Dance in Four Walls. This unique afternoon of performances features dance works inspired by the spiritual and contemplative space within the Four Walls exhibition by Thomas Sayre.The event begins with Madeleine Pautier’s “Yūgen”, a captivating exploration of the universe’s physical and spiritual mysteries, from what lies below the water’s surface to what flies above. Drawing from the dual nature of water and air, Pautier’s choreography reflects themes of fluid transformation, hope, and wonder.

Madeleine, a professional dancer and choreographer, has trained with renowned institutions such as the Kirov Academy of Ballet and BalletMet. Now a member of the US International Ballet and a master’s student in Exercise and Performance Psychology, Madeleine brings her extensive experience and passion for movement to this performance.
Following this, members of the Dance Cooperative present new works inspired by the scale and textures of Sayre’s art. These original pieces delve into themes of honor, sacrifice, struggle, and spirituality, resonating deeply with the exhibition’s contemplative nature.
Founded in 2001, the Dance Cooperative is a non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing the dance community by providing affordable classes, rehearsal space, and performance opportunities to underserved artists in the greater Wilmington area. Their mission fosters a vital connection between professional dance and the local community.
