Join us on Thursday 6 February at Worthing Museum & Art Gallery for a day together to explore Contemporary Collecting. Lunch will be provided.
This event is a great opportunity to learn more about 'contemporary collecting', which can be defined as the collecting of objects, stories and material culture that reflect the recent past and what is happening today.
Discover recent aquisitions, adding to collections to address existing gaps and rapid response collecting in this day that explores the way that contemporary collecting reflects our recent histories.

10.30am - Arrival & tea/coffee
11am – Sussex Museums Group Business Meeting
11.30am – Gerry Connolly, Worthing Museum, ‘Contemporary Collecting: An Ecclectic Display of Recent Acquisitions’: An ecclectic display of recent acquisitions across the collecting areas, and insight into the current debate surrounding contemporary collecting in museums.
12.00pm – Corinna Gardner, The V&A, ‘Rapid Response Collecting’: Rapid Response Collecting was introduced in 2014 as a new type of collecting activity at the V&A. Contemporary objects are acquired in response to major moments in recent history that touch the world of design and manufacturing.
12.30pm – Lunch - provided by SMG
1.30pm to 4pm – Jen Kavanagh, Freelance Curator & Creative Producer ‘Contemporary Collecting Workshop’.
4pm – Pub trip.
