About this Event
Contact Improvisation | Movement and Dance Practice | Workshop and Jam
What is Contact Improvisation?
Contact Improvisation, sometimes referred to as Contact Improv, or CI, is a practice that explores movement through shared weight, touch, and physical awareness. It was created by Steve Paxton in the early 70s in America & has a fascinating background. Today it is practised globally.
What does a typical session look like?
We’ll typically start with a warm-up where we’ll prepare our body for movement. Then we’ll explore some fundamental aspects of CI, rolling, sliding, weight-sharing, balancing etc. Towards the end of the session, we’ll finish with an open-jam where we can put into practice what we’ve been learning. You can participate as much or as little as you like.
I have never done anything like this before...
That’s cool. All the more reason to come and try it! It’s an extremely unique & special movement practice. You’ll learn a lot about yourself from it & you’ll get to move your body! If you have any burning questions, please get in touch and we’ll happily answer you.
