❓What is Contact Improvisation?
Contact Improvisation is a dance practice that explores movement with other people through shared weight, touch, and physical awareness. Developed in 1972 by dancer Steve Paxton, it draws from modern dance, aikido, and somatic practices to emphasize the interplay of gravity, momentum, and improvisation. Dancers engage in continuous physical touch, using balance, inertia, and friction to navigate spontaneous movement. Contact Improvisation fosters creativity, mindfulness, and deep connection, making it both a social dance and a tool for movement research. Beyond performance, it enhances body awareness, adaptability, and trust, welcoming dancers of all levels into a global community.
❓Who is the instructor?
Vesna Jokić is a dancer, transdisciplinary artist, teacher, researcher, and cultural organizer focused on experimental artistic practices. She studied contemporary dance and improvisation in Germany and Belgium, and has lived and worked around the world. She is currently based in Colombia, where she teaches movement, creates, and organizes Contact Improvisation workshops, jams, and other artistic, cultural and community exchanges.
