MORE ABOUT CI: Contact Improvisation was founded in 1972 by Steve Paxton. Integrating his background as a modern dancer and his studies in the martial art form Aikido, Steve developed Contact Improv through explorations with his students and colleagues at the time. It's an intuitive practice that develops community awareness and allows participants to push against their own limitations without words or promises, judgment or competition.
MORE ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Ari Christopher brings a wealth of experience to Contact Improv, with over 500 hours in teaching, performance, and practice. Her passion for CI ignited at the EarthDance July 4th 10-day jam in 2011. Since then, she has refined her skills through practice with the Bill T Jones/Arnie Zane Company, Pilobolus, Critical Mass CI@50 Conference, and several Texas Dance Improvisation Festivals. Ari has shared the stage in CI performances with notable artists like Brandon Steffensen (MFA), Julie Mulvihill (Ph.D.), and TuMM dancers. Her teaching expertise extends to a wide array of students, including Tulsa Ballet CDE Trainees, yoga festival attendees, and meditation practitioners.
How to get your own DANCE KNEES PADS: Order online from Contact Quarterly for $23 https://contactquarterly.com/store/products/dance-kneepads#$ OR Hack it: cut the toes off of a pair of large, THICK men’s work socks - the thicker the better. Then slip them on with the heals over your knees. It works okay.
