🗒️𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:
In this intensive class, we will explore various ways of listening through movement and discover how contact improvisation dance is already happening in our bodies, between bodies, and within the space.
.
.
Fluidity, supportiveness, curiosity, generosity, intuitiveness, and vitality will accompany us on our journey as we encounter states of rooting, feathering, expanding, sphering, rolling, sliding, running, crawling, being connected, and dancing together. Over two days, we will explore contact improvisation (C.I.) through a somatic approach, hands-on practice, solo movement, duet partnering, group dance, and verbal sharing.
.
.
I’ve been focusing on ‘Listening’ as a life, dance, and performance practice.
.
.
This practice has given me profound wisdom, which is that nothing can exist solely on its own but only in mutual relation. This mutual state means we are always in contact with something, with constantly changing boundaries. Therefore, we are momentarily shaped and continuously influenced by changes in our inner and outer environments and conditions.
.
.
Listening is created by contact.
.
.
Through contact, we can discover how and what we listen to. There is always movement when we listen fully with our whole body. Movements that arise from listening "bodyfully" become a natural state of being alive, just as you are. It’s a dancing state. I am always fascinated by the truth that we are literally meant to be dancing in contact. Then,
.
.
How do I listen?
What do I listen to?
How do you listen?
What do you listen to?
How does the ground listen to your foot?
How does gravity listen to your movement?
How does this dance listen to me?
