The transition to university and the demands of academic life pose significant challenges to students: different learning and working methods compared to school, a heavy study load, numerous exams or block exams—these require effective strategies and competent handling of oneself and time management. Furthermore, the world is changing due to broad societal developments such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and the climate crisis.When these demands manifest as chronic overload and persistent stress, they can endanger health and become a significant factor for cardiovascular, psychosomatic, and psychological disorders, and also jeopardize academic success. To support students not only academically but also mentally and to prepare them effectively, this workshop is offered. Structured and scientifically based, participants will learn how to constructively handle high demands and self-imposed pressure. The workshop utilizes Gert Kaluza's multimodal stress management program.
In addition to facts and information about the development of stress, students will have the opportunity to develop individual strategies for handling high demands. They will explore the three levels of stress processes according to Kaluza and learn about various interventions (e.g., ALPEN and Eisenhower methods for time management, learning and relaxation techniques), try these out, and develop mental resilience through exchange with others.
This workshop is aimed at students from all faculties and semesters who feel that they cannot continue as they are, due to being constantly or particularly stressed in their studies.
Learning Objectives:
Learn about the origins of stress and get to know the Kaluza Stress Traffic Light.
Engage with various strategies for healthier time and self-management (Instrumental Stress Management).
Identify personal stress amplifiers and work on a constructive approach (Mental Stress Management).
Discover and try out different possibilities for relaxation and enjoyment, as well as brief relaxation exercises (Regeneration).
Input, work, and exchange phases in the group are sensibly complemented by reflection units.
