Make your own Constructed Techniques SketchbookAn Exciting Practical Course for Teachers of GCSE & A Level Textiles for both Art & Design and D&T.This is a totally practical day making a techniques sketch book, that can be used in the classroom by students of GCSE & A Level.
This course is aimed at Textile and Art teachers who are either new to teaching GCSE/A Level or those who want to add to their resources by spending a whole day creating a constructed techniques resource sketch book or a practical classroom wall poster. We will also link the techniques to relevant artists and designers and schemes of work (and how they can be used in fashion outcomes).
Previous attendees will get the opportunity to learn and practice new skills and further develop fresh, innovative ideas. (NB Please contact before booking if attended previous courses)
Learn and practice new and exciting practical skills that will enhance your teaching
Develop learning from KS3, creating independent, confident and enthusiastic learners at KS4/5.
Techniques: for example; American smocking, Heat Shibori, Mexican pleats, Shadow folds, Shirring and many more.

Creative ways to illustrate these techniques

YOUR PRESENTER: Nicky Simpson BA (Hons) Fashion & Textiles
Nicky is a contemporary textile artist, her artworks combines all things textural, she likes to craft with a heat press featuring both machine and hand embroidery, delivering tutorials in her small studio. Nicky’s initial career was in the fashion industry working for 22 years in the heart of London as a print designer and colourist. She worked for a French mill based in Lyon and went on to create seasonal fashion print collections, buying and redesigning archive prints. Nicky designed for all the high street stores from Marks and Spencer to River Island. Nicky’s second career was in teaching as Head of Fashion & Textiles at Hillview School for Girls in Kent. She has taught AQA Design and Technology/Textiles at A Level and GCSE, BTEC 3 Fashion and Art & Design Textiles at GCSE and A Level, Edexcel now exhibit this work as online exemplars. Her last set of grades were: A Level 100% A-A*; GCSE 70% A-A* (100% A*-B).
Nicky has mentored many graduate trainees, taken workshops at the Knitting & Stitching show, volunteers as an art therapist and now presents the workshops to fellow Textile and Art teachers on behalf of the Textile Skills Academy.

COSTS & BOOKING VIA EVENTBRITE: £ 185 / DAY
All of the Textile Skills Academy events are ticket only and payable IN ADVANCE. The Textiles Skills Academy uses Eventbrite to automate the bookings via credit card and cheque/BACS. When you book you will receive by email a tax invoice/receipt.
PLEASE NOTE your booking confirmation and ticket will be emailed to both the delegate and person purchasing. If you do not receive your ticket it is most commonly caused by typing your email address incorrectly, or it is in your SPAM folder. Please check your booking carefully. It is VERY important that your school finance manager supplies your full name and PERSONAL SCHOOL email so that we are able to send you joining instructions and further details. If we only receive the ‘school office’ email address, we have found in the past that this delays information getting to you or information is not passed on.
SKETCHBOOK: At booking you are also given the opportunity to purchase a sketchbook to start filling on the day. The sketchbook is 12"x12", black, ring bound and with ribbon ties to keep all those samples in. The price is £6 and can also be bought on the day, or you can bring your own.
