About this Event
Butterflies and moths, with their intricate wing patterns and iridescence, are key indicators of ecosystem health. Join Megan at the Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation to explore the conservation challenges these species face in California while practicing accurate illustration techniques. Learn how human behavior affects butterflies, moths, and their host plants, and discover steps you can take to help them thrive.
The $145 registration fee includes all materials, including scientific specimens and photographs provided by Megan to guide your illustrations. This workshop is accessible to artists of all experience levels.
Workshop participants are also invited to explore Megan's exhibit, Illuminating Connections, on display in the Laguna Environmental Center classroom gallery from May–August 2026.
Megan Gnekow, B.S., holds a graduate Certificate in Scientific Illustration. She has served as Artist in Residence at Elkhorn Slough and Black Mountain Lookout, received the 2019 Laura Hecox Naturalist Award, and has taught nature drawing and scientific illustration for over 10 years.
