Conservation Corner: A Studio Tour with Barrett Keating in North Falmouth
A 1790 Society, Benefactor, & Sustainer Level Membership Event
November 17th, 2:30 to 4pm
The Falmouth Historical Society is delighted to invite 1790 Society, Benefactor, & Sustainer members of Museums on the Green to an exclusive behind-the-scenes visit to the studio of Barrett M. Keating, a nationally recognized conservator of antique furniture and works of art. Barrett grew up on Cape Cod following his passion for building boats and fine wooden furniture, and over the years has trained with top experts associated with institutions such as Winterthur, The Getty Museum, The Smithsonian’s Conservation Analytical Laboratory, and the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities. His expertise spans simple repairs to extensive restorations for museums, historical societies, auction houses, and private collectors nationwide.
During this special tour, attendees will have the rare opportunity to see Barrett’s studio, learn about the meticulous process of conserving and restoring historically significant furniture, and gain insight into the techniques that preserve both value and historical integrity. The visit will conclude with a curated reception featuring libations and savory treats, providing time to reflect, mingle, and discuss the art of preservation with fellow Society members. This event is a unique opportunity to connect with history in a hands-on, intimate setting, and to see the skill and dedication that go into safeguarding our cultural heritage.
