Charlene Hinrichs is originally from New Orleans and moved to Lafayette with her family two years ago. A lifelong creator and artist, Charlene has found ways to incorporate art throughout her life and hopes to inspire creativity with various artistic mediums. Over the years, her art has consisted of many mediums including acrylic, paper, mixed media collage, and sculpture.
Charlene's acrylic paintings are typically expressive pieces that convey intense and complex messages in a playful manner. She has developed a collection of characters that reflect different aspects of oneself, with each component within her pieces carrying significant and intentional meaning. She is particularly fascinated by the beauty in nature, focusing her artistic exploration on the study of flowers. This continuous investigation allows her to express the colorful and unique essence of natural beauty using a variety of mediums. She often uses found materials as canvases, reflecting her eco-conscious approach to art.
Creating art is a form of self-expression for Charlene, as well as a way to share joy with others. Since moving to Lafayette, she has had the opportunity to paint windows for several businesses, create house float decorations during Mardi Gras, and participate in local art markets. Last summer, one of her art pieces was selected for the ‘Cur Non’ exhibit at the Acadiana Center for the Arts. She was also chosen to create a silent auction pelican for the Pelican Ball hosted by the Acadiana Center for the Arts.
It is important for Charlene to create art every day.
"Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun."
